Extra Good Puppy Chow Recipe

Is the recipe for extra good dog food.

The “original puppy chow recipe” is a healthy snack that can be made in minutes. It’s easy to make and it’s an extra good option for your dog.

Puppy chow in gorgeous, chunky clusters with additional chocolate, peanut butter, and a dusting of powdered sugar. Summer joy in the Midwest.

Hear me out: the summer is unquestionably the ideal season for dog food. When you feel like a chilly dose of chocolate, peanut butter, and crunch, you create it, freeze it, and then indulge in that salty-sweet crispness.

One of those little joys, such as puppy chow, might elevate the emotional quality of a hangout, cabin weekend, road trip, or evening spent at home on the sofa. A handful of this cheerful little treat may improve any circumstance.

I was born in the 1990s and raised in the Midwest, so you could say that I have experience in this field.

The ideal puppy food is when it is:

  • VERY COLD
  • SUPER CRISP
  • EVEN MORE CHOCOLATE
  • OVERLY CUSHIONED

Let me demonstrate what I believe puppy food should always look like:

Gorgeous, substantial clusters.

In my childhood, puppy chow was more akin to individual cereal pieces that had been thoroughly dusted with powdered sugar. You consumed it one piece at a time and it was provided at room temperature.

You know what’s even more enjoyable, though? More chocolate, peanut butter, and butter will cling together more if you use MORE of each ingredient, which will result in wonderful tiny clusters. And if you make it really cold, it becomes a thick, crunchy, and just delightful tiny mouthful.

The image you are seeing is just an adult version of the original gigantic cluster. While maintaining the fundamentals, this just turns the good stuff up, like the chocolate, peanut butter, and butter. The texture, shape, and warmth add a little bit extra thrill. The grazing is quite fulfilling. It’s very enjoyable.

What Is Dog Food?

Puppy Chow, also known as Muddy Buddies, is a snack (dessert? ), or as some young people or non-Midwesterners would say, “a treat.” valuable possession? It is created by dipping crunchy cereal, such Rice Chex, in melted chocolate peanut butter mixture and then tossing it with powdered sugar. Wiki refers to it as a “homemade candy” – haha. It’s designed to be consumed in large quantities, much like a sweetened version of Chex Mix.

Due of my strong feelings about freezing it, I’m making the argument today that it’s the ideal sweet snack / fun item that you should be creating to bring pleasure into your life for these last few weeks of summer. It is one of the great Midwestern cuisine contributions of the 1980s and 1990s (my origins!)

I’m dubbing this “Extra Good” since it’s thicker, clusterier, and more delicious than the recipes on the back of Chex boxes due to the addition of additional chocolate-peanut butter coating.

How To Prepare Dog Food

Make a chocolate concoction.

First, melt butter, chocolate, and peanut butter in a large bowl. Using a microwave is easy. Midwest is where we are. We are not affluent.

Along with the cereal, there is melted chocolate.

Combining chocolate with cereal

Stir it till it is evenly covered.

NOT A SINGLE PIECE LEFT BEHIND.

Add powdered sugar and toss.

Toss the coated cereal with powdered sugar until every piece is covered and has reached the touch-dry state.

You’ll agree with me that combining the chocolate-covered cereal in a paper shopping bag is the traditional and correct method if you’re a Midwesterner who grew up in the 1990s (hi). Without the paper bag, is it truly puppy chow?

However, any large bag (ziplock, paper, or even a large mixing bowl that you can toss gently without breaking the cereal) will suffice.

Relax Time

Transfer the mixture to a surface so that it may “dry” or solidify into bite-sized pieces of crispy, delectable chocolate peanut butter paradise.

I often use a few parchment-lined baking pans, which I then put in the freezer because FROZEN PUPPY CHOW IS LIFE CHANGING.

(Don’t spread it out too thin for best clustering. Just let it lie whatever it wants to, and the clusters will develop as a result of the freezing process.)

How to Keep Dog Food

Store this tempting feast without a doubt in the freezer. I either store it in Ziplock bags or airtight containers (like a covered plastic food storage container, for instance).

Yes, the fridge works, the counter will even work. But the freezer is WHERE IT’S AT for an SUPER CRISPity satisfying crunch. Plus, it travels well and makes it last longer.

The ideal food to grab is puppy kibble, particularly straight from the freezer:

  • hut weekends
  • travel by car
  • snacks around a fire
  • pool days
  • Generally speaking, children and teens (we don’t often have teenagers in our home, but recently we did, and when we brought the puppy chow out, there were genuine cheers and then it was hammered)
  • merely collecting a few clusters for an after-dinner chilly, crunchy treat.

Oh, the happiness and pleasure of that cold, extra-chocolatey crunch! I hope that this encourages you to take it easier in August. CHEERS to eating.

  • 1 box of cereal Rice Chex (about 10 cups)
  • 2 cups of chocolate chips, semisweet
  • peanut butter, 1 cup
  • a half-cup of salted butter
  • 2 vanilla bean seeds
  • a dash of salt
  • 2 cups of powdered sugar (add more if you’d like)

  1. Melt the butter, peanut butter, and chocolate chips in a large microwave-safe basin, stirring after each 30 second interval, until combined and creamy.
  2. Add salt and vanilla after that.
  3. Pour chocolate over the cereal; since this recipe produces a lot, I do it in two large bowls.
  4. Be cautious not to shatter the cereal when you combine the chocolate and cereal with a wooden spoon.
  5. In a paper shopping bag, add the powdered sugar on the bottom. Sprinkle the powdered sugar with the chocolate-coated cereal (yes, just dump it right in). Gently shake the bag to distribute the powdered sugar among the pieces.
  6. Lay it out on parchment paper to cool and harden, or transfer to a few baking sheets. For the finest clustering and most pleasant crunch, I strongly advise freezing this.

Notes

Use a few plastic Ziplock bags in its place if the paper bag is making you queasy. You’ll need to work in multiple tiny batches since they are smaller.
